Who we are

Global Animal Welfare was founded in 2019 by Nicola (Nic) Field (right) and Annemarie Weegenaar (Left).

Nic and Annemarie worked together for 10 years at Animals Asia’s bear rescue centres in China and Vietnam. Having visited many rescue centres and sanctuaries in Asia and around the world, it was clear that many facilities have the best intentions but that many face immense challenges which have led to animal welfare being compromised.

Through delivering and facilitating animal welfare expertise, Global Animal Welfare will promote animal care through capacity building, training, continuous consultation and monitoring.

Global Animal Welfare aims to maximise opportunity for successful releases and to ensure appropriate long-term care for those animals who remain in captivity.

They have genuine compassion and empathy towards all animals and will work tirelessly to help animals in need or to ensure a better future for animals in captive environments through education, training and demonstration.

I have known both Annemarie and Nic professionally for almost 20 years during my time working as an animal management and training consultant in the Asia Pacific region.

Annemarie and Nic have joined forces to form Global Animal Welfare…and what a team they make! Annemarie and Nic are dedicated, talented and skilled individuals who both have an extremely high level of personal and professional integrity. They have genuine compassion and empathy towards all animals and will work tirelessly to help animals in need or to ensure a better future for animals in captive environments through education, training and demonstration. I work internationally to assist with animal rescue missions in remote and challenging regions around the globe to improve the health, welfare and wellbeing of these animals. Annemarie and Nic are the first two people I call upon to help me when I need specialised animal expertise because I know I am guaranteed of the best possible outcome for the animals.

I would recommend Global Animal Welfare for any animal welfare mission, staff training and development, animal facility review or animal training and enrichment program.
